Good People Drink Good Beer

This post is going to focus on Untappd, which is one of my favorite social networking apps out there! It’s a place for beer drinkers to share with others what they are currently drinking. As someone who has created a twitter and a blog in the past to share what I’m drinking with others, it’s nice to have a site that is actually meant for, and caters to, posting and drinking beer!

Untapped keeps track of both how many beers you have personally checked in to overall, as well as how many distinct check-ins you’ve done. You can of course add your comments about the brew, a picture of it, and where you are currently drinking it. You have your own profile where you can also earn badges. Above are 2 pictures of my own personal profile, so you have an idea of what exactly you’re sharing with others out there. There are some specific badges that you can earn along the way - such as Drinking Your Paycheck or I Believe in IPA! - as well as special, limited time ones - such as Indepence Day 2012.

Untappd also has many ways to bring you closer to other beers drinkers, new bars, and what beers are trending in both your area and across the country! Hence the social networking aspect of the app. It’s fun to search for beers in your area to see what’s new. Untappd also give you the option to add your own beer if you can’t find it in a search - a feature that makes it VERY easy for you homebrewers out there to add and check-in to your own beers. I’ve already added a few brews of my father’s, under his Muskrat Brewing Co!

Untappd is definitely a new breed of social networking, and it’s so fun to play around on. The only thing I’m unsure of is whether it is available for androids also, or only iPhones.
